Poshmark 101: Sharing to Increase Poshmark Sales

Hi Friends!

So sorry I have been MIA lately. I have been working on creating new bangles & finding unique inventory for my Poshmark business, as well as traveling and trying to enjoy summer while it is here. Sometimes you just need to take some time to experience real moments, and enjoy life outside of phones and social media.

Today I am going to continue with my Poshmark 101 series that I started back in March to help you guys increase your Poshmark sales! I would like to talk about a sure-fire strategy to help you get more sales: Sharing.

Sharing is vital to your Poshmark business. You need to be sharing items from your Poshmark closet, as well as items from others’ closets. Sharing is caring, and we all need to support each other.

Sharing From Your Closet: You need to be sharing your own items a few times a day to give them some exposure in your followers’ feeds. Try not to share them all at once. Share a few, then go back later and share some different ones. Maybe 1-2 at a time, because when you share more than that, Poshmark will cluster them all into one block on your followers’ feeds, and they may not be seen at all.

Sharing From Others’ Closets: When you share items from other Poshmark users, to your followers, the proper Posh etiquette is for them to share your items to their followers. This way, you both get some extra promotion for your items, which increases the chances of getting a sale.

Here are some other sharing tips:

-          Share your items to Posh Parties throughout the day! If your schedule allows, make sure you’re taking time and sharing items that fit the theme of the party. These parties are opportune moments to get your closet seen, gain new followers, and make sales.

-          Share items from the Posh Parties. Again, if you have time during the day, try to go through and share 50-100 listings from other users. Most of them will also share your items back, so it’s a win-win!

-          Try to share from the final Posh Party of the day. This is the party that has the most active users, usually over 600,000 listings. I usually try to share the Host Picks and the First Look listings. Make sure you are sharing your own items to the party, as well!

-          Share brands that are similar to items that you carry in your closet. Poshmark lets you filter listings by brand, category, etc… Try sharing from these to find some new PFF’s!

-          This is personal preference, but I find that sharing, and Poshing in general, is much easier from my iPad. I use my phone to check notifications and respond to comments while I’m using my iPad to participate in the Posh Party.

I hope you find these tips useful! As always, follow me & send questions to @SydneyEllePM on Instagram & Twitter! My Poshmark closet is @SydneyElle.

xoxo. Sydney

Modern Wedding Etiquette

Hi Friends!

Last week, I came across a photo online that I was really surprised to see. The photo was taken at a wedding, from the front of a church, as the bride began to make her grand entrance. However, you could not see the bride, or her father who was escorting her. All you could see were the wedding guests, almost falling into the aisle, blocking her face with their smartphones, trying to take photos.

Has the love of getting the best Instagram photo completely overshadowed the concept of basic etiquette at a wedding? I don't think so. But it wouldn't hurt to address it.

Here are some things to remember, next time you attend a loved one's big day:

Photos: This could go one of two ways-
    • 1. The couple has paid quite a bit of money to hire a professional photographer to document the ceremony. In that case, please keep your phone put away, and let the photographer(s) do their job. It is an insult to any professional photographers/videographers if you are taking photos. It is also not very aesthetically pleasing to look at wedding photos and see nothing but phones in the air.
    • 2. The couple has not hired a professional photographer, and would like the guests to take photos. In this case, there will probably be signage indicating that they would like you to do so. If there is no signage, assume to keep your cameras and phones out of sight, at least until the reception.
    • Type: Make sure you follow the dress code. This will be noted on the invitation. There is nothing worse to be under-dressed for a formal evening, or vice-versa.
    • Colors: Do not wear white. Do not wear anything that is even close to white. Do not wear a print dress that has white in it. Do not wear blush. Just don't do it. Also, try not to wear the colors that the wedding party is wearing. You really don't want to match the bridesmaids, if you are not in the wedding.
    • Modesty: Please keep modesty in mind when attending the wedding. I like to say, if Princess Kate wouldn't wear it, I probably shouldn't either.
    • This is extremely important! Someone is spending quite a bit on food, especially if it is a sit-down dinner. They need to know exactly how many are attending, so that they can prepare to have enough food, without having to spend extra to feed people who are not coming. They also need to know how many chairs & tables to have, so that everyone has a seat.
    • Remember to sit where you are asked to sit. Not everyone can sit near the bride, or with the wedding party. Please do not throw a fit at the reception if your seat is not beside the bride (true story).
    • This goes along with the photos section, but if a bride and groom have a wedding hashtag posted, utilize it! It's always fun to see photos from the reception. This way, they can go back and look at all of them when the day is over, and before the professional ones get returned from the photographer.
The dress I'm wearing above, from Mil & Pat Boutique, would be excellent to wear to a semi-formal or beach wedding! I love the bright green color. I have accessorized it with a blue lace agate bangle from my Sydney Elle collection, which is currently sold out, but there are still several great ones to choose from! (View all available bangles here)

Hi friends!

This Hawaiian print romper from Mil & Pat Boutique is one of my favorite pieces for summer! I love the bright colors and the tassels that are on the lace-up detail in the front! Also, the sleeves make it perfect to wear to the beach, where it can get colder at night from the sea-breeze. It is very flattering, comfortable, and the cinched waist is the perfect detail to give it a more tailored fit.

I love rompers because they are a complete outfit, all in one, but great for occasions where you don't necessarily want to wear a dress or pants. Graduation & Shower seasons are here, and this would be absolutely perfect for those types of events!

I paired this romper with a simple straw clutch and my signature elephant bangle from my handcrafted Sydney Elle jewelry collection! This elephant bangle is the perfect accessory, and goes with anything, any time of year!

Just For You Guys! If you use the code SYDNEYELLE20 at checkout on the Mil & Pat website, you will get 20% off of the romper and any of my Sydney Elle bangles!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day! Can you believe it is almost summer? I am so excited!

Tie Dye Trends & Fishtail Braid

Hi Friends! I love statement pieces. This green tie dye tunic from Nola Rae Boutique is exactly that!

The combination of both dark and light tones makes it a perfect layering piece for any time of year! I chose to pair it with some black leggings and heels. I am very petite, so I like to balance out a loose, flowy tunic, with a more tapered look on the bottom.

I chose to stick with some neutral toned jewelry. Balance is always the key to accessorizing. I like to pair a more neutral outfit with bold accessories, or vice versa. Since this top is such a vibrant green, I chose to pair it with my signature handmade elephant bangle, and more delicate aquamarine and coin bangles (part of my Sydney Elle Designs collection for NolaRae Boutique). I really love how these delicate bangles turned out. They will go with anything and are great pieces to have in your wardrobe to wear every day!

I am really excited about this tie dye trend for spring & summer! It is definitely something that you can dress up, for night looks, and down, for more casual looks during the day. This tunic would also look great with a pair of white jeans and some neutral-colored shoes for shopping and running errands!

Many have asked about my braided hairstyle from these photos, so I wanted to post a close-up! I simply braided two front strands into a crown and secured with bobby pins. Then I braided the rest of my hair into a fishtail style braid. Search Pinterest for braided hairstyle tutorials. I always get asked if it takes a long time. It may take you a while at first, but once you get the hang of it, the fishtail braids really won’t take you long at all!

Lilac Tunic Dress!

Hi friends! Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone’s week is going well so far. It has been pretty rainy here in South Carolina the past few days, but I’m so excited it is getting warmer outside. I think we just went straight to Summer, because it’s supposed to be almost 90 degrees this week.

Since we never know what the weather is going to do during these transitional months, I love to have essential pieces in my wardrobe that I can easily layer, if I need to. This Lilac Tunic dress from Nola Rae Boutique that I am featuring today, is one of those pieces.

This is a great, lightweight dress, with a slight high-low hemline (meaning it is a little longer in the back, than the front). The hemline is also a little shorter on the sides. It is very loose, as are the sleeves, which makes this dress flattering for any body type.

Wire Bangles

I opted to pair this dress with the aquamarine & coin bangles, part of my exclusive Sydney Elle Collection that I designed for Nola Rae Boutique. These bangles are delicate and timeless, and they were just the perfect touch! I am also wearing a long agate stone necklace that I have had for a while, but Nola Rae Boutique has some gorgeous new necklaces from Boho Beads by Stella that would give a similar look!

I am loving the neutral shoe trend for Spring! These cork wedges went just perfectly with this dress for a day look, or you could definitely dress it up with some black heels and accessories to wear out to dinner for a night look, as well!

What is so great about this dress is that you can wear it by itself in the summer, but it would also look great paired with some leggings and boots as we move into Fall & Winter time! It really is a great transitional piece that you can wear all year round, day or night.

I have something exclusively for you guys! Use code SYDNEYELLE on the Nola Rae Boutique website, and you’ll get 10% off of any Sydney Elle Designs bangles + FREE SHIPPING! These are very limited, so hurry and claim your favorites!

Be sure to follow @NolaRaeBoutique on Instagram for other exclusive sales & the newest designs from my collection!

Bell Sleeves!

Hi friends! I am SO excited about this top from Nola Rae Boutique. It features one of my favorite trends for the spring: Bell sleeves.

This off-the-shoulder turquoise top is the perfect essential piece for your spring wardrobe! It will go perfect with everything from denim cutoffs to your favorite white jeans. I paired it with a pair of skinny jeans, because it is very loose fitted and I wanted to balance it out with a more tailored bottom.

Comfort is important to me when deciding what to wear, especially during the hot months here in
South Carolina. This top is very breathable, and flowy. (Because it is loose cut, you may want to size down when ordering!) The straps on it are adjustable, and it has clasps in the front.

The embroidery and crochet details on the sleeves are so intricate and beautiful! They pair perfectly with this bangle collection curated exclusively for Nola Rae Boutique. (Pictured: Light Blue AquamarineBangle, Two-toned Quartzite Bangle, and Vintage Pewter Coin Bangle)

I am absolutely in love with this top! You can find it on NolaRaeBoutique.com starting next week, and the bangles are available now. Make sure you subscribe to the Nola Rae Boutique email list for a special offer!

Special thanks to Nola Rae Boutique for sponsoring this post!

The Perfect Fringe Top

Hi Friends! Today I am showcasing this gorgeous fringe top from Nola Rae Boutique. It is the essential piece for dressing up or down, and perfect for the upcoming warmer weather! It is very loose and breathable, which is necessary for Spring & Summer in the south.

It is mainly black, with a slight bit of grey here and there to add some texture. I love the fringe! So fun and works for day and night wear. This top is very loose cut, so stick to your normal size, or size down if you would like a slightly more fitted look.

I am wearing this top with some distressed dark wash jeans, but it would also look great with some shorts or white jeans! I am also a huge fan of black leggings with heels, if you wanted to go for a more evening, tone on tone, look.

I am also wearing a bangle stack from my handmade collection, Sydney Elle Designs. The pink stones are a gorgeous rose quartz (One of Pantone’s colors of the year!), while the elephants are carved from a natural, white howlite stone.  The gold, pewter coin bangle is an exclusive collaboration, and available only through Nola Rae Boutique! It is definitely a necessity for your jewelry collection and goes with everything!

Fringe top & bangle stack are available at Nola Rae Boutique! Also follow along on Instagram for exclusive sales and behind the scenes fun: @NolaRaeBoutique

5 Steps to Increase Your Sales on Poshmark

So, you want to increase your sales and make more money using Poshmark. The key to this is to appear professional, no matter how long you have been using the app. Here are some tips on how to make your Poshmark closet more appealing to buyers:

1.      Get Organized- You need to know your inventory in order to sell it. Go through and pick out the items you are going to sell. On a piece of paper, write down the name of each item and the details you are going to need for your descriptions (brand, size, colors, etc…). Also, you need to measure each item, and include this information in the description for your buyers. The key here is to anticipate the questions your customers are going to ask about the item. The less questions they have to ask, the more likely they are to just buy it. Having this information written down also helps you make your listings more quickly.
2.     Pictures, Pictures, Pictures- I cannot stress this enough. You do not need a fancy camera to take good pictures, but you do need good, natural lighting. Usually it is best to take them in the morning or at dusk. This will make a world of difference in attracting buyers to your items.
3.     Network! – Follow other Poshers. Share their listings. Repeat. When you interact with others on Poshmark, they will return the favor, and everyone gets more exposure for their closets! Do this as often as possible. The more you interact with others, the more sales you will have!
4.     Customer Service- How you treat people is extremely important. Both on Poshmark, and in real life. Selling on Poshmark is a lot like working in an actual store. Be kind to everyone who comes to your closet. Answer their questions honestly. The key is to communicate with your customers, and they will remember how you treated them! Post more pictures if they need it. Post measurements for them. Just be nice in your answers to their questions, whatever they are.
5.     Promote Your Closet- Engage your social media accounts to promote your Poshmark closet. Make separate accounts if you have to, that are solely for posting your Poshmark items on. Share them on your Facebook page! Search hashtags to find other Poshers on social media. Make friends and share each others’ items! Poshmark has integrated share buttons into the app to make sharing your closet on social media easy for you!

Keep in mind that consistency is key. Engage on the Poshmark app as much as you can! You have to get into the mindset that this is your business, and treat it as such. Take it seriously and you will see results in no time!

Poshmark 101: Shipping Hacks

Between working in retail for 8 years and running my own Etsy shop for 2 years, before I started selling on Poshmark, I have had my fair share of shipping items. I thought it would be helpful to share some shipping strategies that I have picked up over time. These will not only help you when shipping your items from your Poshmark sales, but also come in handy anytime you find yourself needing to ship gifts and packages to others.

You can pick up free priority mail shipping boxes & envelopes from your local post office, or, in most cases, order boxes from their website to have them shipped right to your front door! Mostly I use these smaller boxes and these flexible envelopes, because the majority of items that I ship are jewelry and smaller items. However, I have used these boxes to ship shoes and larger packages (like bundles).

Dollar Store Supplies

I buy most of the extra items that I use in shipping my Posh packages, from my local dollar store. My favorite thing to buy at the dollar store is tape. They have large rolls of packing tape, as well as decorative tape, and washi tape, all for $1! You can also buy markers, plastic zip bags, and wrapping paper here. (Remember, you want to keep your shipping supply costs low, because these will begin to cut into your profits, if you’re not careful.)

How to Pack Your Posh Package
  • Usually, I wrap each item in tissue paper. The tissue paper helps to protect your item AND it makes your package look pretty.

  • I put every item I ship into a clear, plastic zip bag. (Another reason I like to buy these at the dollar store, is because I can get the large, gallon sized ones without any logos on them.) Remember, the boxes are not water proof, so just putting your item into the box, even if it is wrapped in tissue paper, still poses the risk that something could become wet and damaged in shipment. I also try to put my thank you card in the clear bag to keep it from getting wet.

  • After you get everything packed into your box, make sure you tape the box closed. Do not trust that the adhesive on the shipping box is enough to hold the box closed until it reaches its destination. Also, make sure that your label is taped securely to the box and is not peeling off in anyway.

  • I also highly recommend using boxes to ship hats, jewelry, accessories, and cosmetics. The box will provide a secure barrier around the item and keep it from being squished by other boxes and items during transit.

Other Tips!
  • Don’t be afraid to get creative. Wrap and make your Posh packages pretty for your buyers. I get compliments about my packaging in my reviews, so trust me, they will notice.

  • Save things like tissue paper, packing paper, and bubble wrap from other packages you receive. These things can be easily recycled, and you’ll have more money to spend on Poshmark!

  • If you can’t make it to the post office, you can go online to see if your address qualifies for package pickup by USPS. You just enter in your address and your mail carrier will pick up your packages during their normal route.

I hope these shipping tips will help you get your Posh packages safely to their buyers! Feel free to leave your questions in the comments, or you can find me on Twitter & Instagram: @SydneyEllePM or my Poshmark closet @SydneyElle

Review: CoverGirl Clump Crusher Mascara

I have been using the same CoverGirl compact since highschool, but I have never tried their mascara. That’s why I was thrilled to receive this new Clump Crusher mascara to try out!

When doing my eye makeup, I first apply my eyeliner, then eye shadow, then I put on my mascara. I applied one coat of the Clump Crusher mascara, and let it sit for a minute. Then, I applied a second coat only to my upper, outer lashes. This gives some dimension to your eyelashes and adds volume.

Here is the brush, which has strategically placed bristles to separate your lashes and eliminate clumping.

I often get asked if my eyelashes are real, or not. I have never worn false lashes, and I do not curl my lashes with an eyelash curler. I only wear mascara. Sometimes I use a primer, but I did not do so with Clump Crusher, because I wanted to see how it would look on its own.

I am a firm believer that you can find quality beauty products without spending too much, and I will definitely be buying more of this mascara! It does a great job at adding length and volume to your lashes, without feeling heavy or plastic-like. Also, it washes off easily with my eye makeup remover, without leaving much residue behind.

Thank you to CoverGirl for sending me this great mascara to try out & review!

Poshmark 101: Getting Started as a Seller on Poshmark

Whether you would like to make some extra money, or start your own online retail boutique, Poshmark is the way to go.

What is Poshmark, you ask?
Poshmark is a website & app for selling new and gently used women’s clothing and accessories, as well as unused cosmetics. I downloaded the app about 2 years ago, after hearing a report about it on a morning news show. The first thing I listed on the app was a pink sweater with a hedgehog on it that I had just never worn. It sold within hours. It really was that easy!

I am writing this post to help those of you who want to make some extra cash, but may be hesitant about the responsibility of selling online, or maybe you just don’t know how to get started. Poshmark has streamlined this process as much as possible, and you can start selling with minimal costs & supplies! Odds are, you already have a fair share of inventory stored away in your closet.

You only need a few basic necessities to begin selling on Poshmark:
1.   Inventory- Go through your closet & choose things that you haven’t worn in a while. Make sure you check the items that you choose for any stains or signs of wear. Refrain from listing items that have holes in them, permanent stains, or that show significant signs of fading from being washed. The key here is new or gently worn. (I go over each item multiple times checking for any significant flaws.)
2.   Shipping Supplies- USPS has free, yes FREE, boxes that you can pick up at the post office or have shipped to your doorstep. Just make sure you get the boxes that are just regular mailing boxes and NOT the flat rate boxes. You can find packing tape and bubble wrap at the dollar store, as well as other wrapping supplies to make your Posh package pretty!
3.   Printer and Paper- These are necessary to print the shipping labels that Poshmark sends you, once your item has sold. The shipping label will come straight to your email for you to print off!

So you have everything organized. Now what?

1.    Download the app. Use my referral code- BPXAO –to sign up, and you will immediately receive a $10 credit to use toward a purchase. (I will also get a $10 credit from this, then you will have your own code to start earning credits with, so let’s help each other!)
2.    Fill out your Meet the Posher listing, so potential buyers can see who you are!
3.    Take some pictures of your inventory. Try to take them in natural lighting.
4.    Write an accurate description. Make sure to include even the slightest flaws & measurements of the item.
5.   Pick your price, keeping in mind that Poshmark keeps $2.95 if the price is $15 and under, and 20% if the items sells for more than $15.
6.   Try to list at least 5-10 items. The more items in your closet, the better your chances at making a sale!
7.   Network! Start following others and sharing their listings. You can search users by brand and follow those with similar styles! You can also follow the suggested users. Most will follow you back and share your items!

This pretty much sums up the basics of getting started as a seller on Poshmark. Be sure to read the Poshmark user guide & FAQ located in the Poshmark Support Center within the app.

Aside from this, the best advice I can give to you about starting your Poshmark closet, or anything, really, is to just start. Sometimes it is just that simple. Often, we tend to procrastinate until something is "ready" or "perfect", when, in reality, it may never be perfect, and we may never be 100% ready. A lot of my business has been figured out through trial & error, and I am constantly tweaking things, but I am so glad that I finally chose to create my own progress!

Feel free to leave questions in the comments! I am happy to help anyone who needs it. Stay tuned for future posts and Poshmark tips! If you would like me to do a post on a certain topic, leave it in the comments section or tweet me @SydneyEllePM! My Poshmark closet user name is @SydneyElle, if you would like to follow along with me on there!

(Disclaimer: I do not work for Poshmark, nor is this post affiliated with them in anyway. All opinions are my own and are meant only as suggestions.)
